  It would not be an overstatement to tell you that all of my knowledge about Indian folklore and Hinduism is entirely gleaned from the picture books below (and maybe whatever was mentioned in The Little Princess, if that is even accurate — I don’t know). I .   I’m continuing my folktale picture book series with Native American stories. Although I titled this list “Native American folktales,” I believe it would be more correct to say “traditional stories” (you can correct me in the comments); I have also limited this list to North America (excluding Mexico).While November is Native American Heritage Month, the perfect time to share these.

Folk tales, some with morals, are a part of many cultures, including that of India. These stories recount cultural or religious themes, often told using animals as examples. I belong to Uttar Pradesh but my favourite folk songs are from the state of Rajasthan. Being a devout Hindu and a Rajput I have special respect for Rajasthan and it's culture which happens to be the land of my ancestors.:) Many Rajasthani folk.
